The AME Association (Atlantic) presents three awards annually, these include:
-
The Newfoundland Government Air Services Memorial Award
The Newfoundland Government Air Services Memorial Award was established initially in memory of Glen Gosling, Manager of the Avionics Shop at Newfoundland Government Air Services, who passed away suddenly on March 25, 1982, during the AME conference in Moncton, NB. After Joe Price’s passing on February 26, 1992, Joe’s name was added to the award. Joe Price was the Chief Inspector for Government Air Services. He was a strong advocate for the AME association and its conferences.
Initially given to students based on academic performance, the award criteria were adjusted due to privacy issues. Now, it is presented annually to an individual or corporation (not necessarily an AME) who has shown outstanding interest in and support of the AME Association (Atlantic) Inc.
-
The Earl Blakney Award
The Earl Blakney Award was established to honor Earl Blakney, a steadfast supporter of the Atlantic AME Conference since its inception in the 1970s. As the General Manager of Standard Aero Parts in Fredericton from the late 70s into the late 80s, Earl continued his legacy as the premier aircraft parts supplier out of Halifax under Field Aviation Parts. In 1991, Earl announced his retirement from Field Aviation, which had been acquired by Aviall Canada Ltd., and later, in 2018, became Boeing Distribution Inc. Earl and his team became beloved fixtures in the hearts and minds of aviation professionals across the four Atlantic Provinces.
In recognition of his significant contributions and the profound respect he earned throughout his illustrious career, the award was renamed to permanently honor Earl Blakney. This renaming serves as a lasting tribute to an individual who exemplified outstanding dedication and support for our industry throughout their career.
This award is presented annually to an aircraft maintenance person from the Atlantic Region who has distinguished themselves during their career. The recipient does not have to be a member of the AME Atlantic Association.
-
The Roger Richard Memorial Award
The Roger Richard Memorial Award was established to honor Roger Richard, a founding father of the AME Association (Atlantic) and the Atlantic Regional Aircraft Maintenance Conference. Roger began his illustrious career with Maritime Central Airways (MCA) as an Aircraft Mechanic in 1950, earning his AME License QMM47 in 1952. He transferred to Moncton in 1954 and continued with MCA, which was later acquired by Eastern Provincial Airways in 1963. Roger served as Maintenance Supervisor until 1973, when he joined the Department of Transport.
Throughout his career, Roger worked in all sections of Airworthiness and was appointed Supervisor of Large Air Carrier Inspection in 1983. He was a passionate advocate for the establishment of the Aircraft Maintenance Course at the New Brunswick Community College, Moncton Campus, and a founding member of the Canadian Airworthiness Inspectors Association. Sadly, Roger passed away in 1984 due to cancer, before he could enjoy his retirement. In his honor, the award was renamed.
This prestigious award is presented annually to a retired AME from the Atlantic Region who has distinguished themselves throughout their career. The recipient does not need to be a member of the AME Atlantic Association.
